Even the manufacturers manual did not explain how to do this. I can now go ahead and buy that board that is a great deal]]> /intel-realtek-hd-ac-97-multichannel-5-16-17-1-audio-and-front-panel-solutions/comment-page-1/#comment-2170 Sun, 18 Nov 2012 12:02:02 +0000 /?p=235#comment-2170 Hey, sorry for the late reply.

The socket on the motherboard does not determine the audio channel mode. It only discovers the hardware connected to it. If the hardware tells the motherboard that it’s multichannel capable, you will see those capabilities reflected in your control panel. I think that your stereo downmix is the only viable solution you’ve got in terms of firewire connection.

You can also try a firewire to component converter and funnel the audio in separate channels that way. It could work as the converter will be responsible for stereo channels.

I hope that helps.

My problem is the opposite of yours, my Audio seems to be stuck in 6 channel mode and when I play games, I miss out on a lot of the audio that goes through the centre speaker. When I go into the “Line Out” properties, the option to change channel modes is greyed out & not changeable.

I have checked the BIOS on my Gigabyte UD5v1 mobo, I have even flashed my BIOS but thats not sorted it. Reading your article, I am wondering if I have physically hooked up something incorrectly on the mobo itself (the PC was my first self build)?

I would be really grateful if you could help. My audio is routed via firewire to a Yamaha N12 which then sends the audio signal stereo style to the speakers. My workaround is that teh N12 has a 5.1 mix down option and I can toggle that mode on and then I have a bounce to stereo toggle which results in the audio finally routing as a stereo output. My concern is that I am wondering if when I am recording Audio files on my DAW, there is or may be phasing issues going on so I am desperate to try and get this sorted!.

Hoping you can help :)
